Edipresse Polska is an international media company which intensely develops its portfolio of websites (such as: polki.pl, wizaz.pl, party.pl, niania.pl, mamotoja.pl and viva.pl) and publishes magazines (e.g. VIVA!, Party. Życie Gwiazd!, Uroda Życia, Mamotoja).CHALLENGESEdpiresse key challenge was to ensure the stable operation of the infrastructure. They had to do it within a tight timeframe set by the management. At the same time, they wanted to get rid of technical debt.SOLUTIONWhat problems we faced and how we solved them:Risk management - the most difficult and time-consuming problems were solved first.Time management - in this situation the Pareto principle worked - the transfer of 80% of the functionality took 20% of the time, the migration of legacy systems – 80%.Technical debt - a very outdated tech stack with minimal documentation.Architecture management - creating a uniform architecture for all websites that can be easily adapted to the needs of a specific portal, without incurring unnecessary costs. Architecture is shared, but adaptable to traffic volumes and business needs. Mobiltek is the leading provider of mobile payments and IT solutions for transaction systems. Its dynamic development increased the demands on infrastructure and forced the streamlining and automation of processes. The company decided to migrate from monolithic applications to microservices, utilize Kubernetes and entrust environment management to the Oktawave team.CHALLENGESMobiltek needed a solution which would permit migration from monolithic architecture to microservices, improve the quality of IT environment maintenance and increase ROI.SOLUTIONSMobiltek approached Oktawave to deliver a cloud environment with specified services: managed Kubernetes, database clusters, network file storage, and network services. After agreeing on the cooperation scope, the Oktawave team started to prepare the infrastructure and services. We configured and launched a test cluster and then a Kubernetes production cluster. We also configured Kubernetes Components (DNS, Load Balancer, Container Network Interface, Container Resource Monitoring, Cluster-Level Logging), provided monitoring of resource use and Pod lifecycle, and deployed autoscaling mechanisms. The Mobiltek team began to prepare for refactoring of the existing system into microservices. The industry in which TUI operates is characterized by particular seasonality, therefore the use of the infrastructure has changed a lot over time.SOLUTION1. MigrationAfter researching other cloud vendors and alternative infrastructure solutions, TUI chose Oktawave.Oktawave architects and administrators kicked off the project with a meticulous migration plan. Then, they set up the testing environment. After the initial stage, our administrators set about the optimization and test deployments.When everything worked as expected, they moved on to performance tests, and as soon as they were completed, the environment was deployed to production.The TUI infrastructure based on the Oktawave cloud provides, most of all, scalability and flexibility – it dynamically responds to the current workload and is completely resistant to overloads.
